Our Vision

Alliance for Holistic Aging (AHA) is an alliance of people from all walks of life who believe in self-directed aging. Our mission is to empower individuals and groups to develop and share new approaches, resources, products and services for successful, community-based aging.

As our aging population continues to boom, AHA leads the national initiative to create new models for holistic aging that address both humanistic and economic concerns. AHA strongly believes that the most viable solutions to these challenges are discovered at the grassroots level by motivated individuals and groups working together. Our purpose is not to direct these change agents, but to assist, strengthen and connect their dynamic efforts for the benefit of all older Americans, their families and communities.

AHA is guided by the following four principles that form the foundation of our work in communities across the nation.

1. Dialogue (Communication)
The key starting point for our work at the grass roots level is to facilitate intergenerational discussion and consciousness-raising regarding issues that affect the dignity and quality of life as we age. Working with a broad spectrum of culturally, socially and economically diverse individuals, organizations and businesses, our intent is to listen, learn and record the obstacles and ideas associated with successful aging in America.

2. Capacity Building (Tools)
Our next step is to help individuals and groups move beyond dialogue and into action, providing them with tools to proactively manifest individual and community change. Through self-assessment, coaching and experiential techniques (case studies and role modeling), we help participants collectively uncover the skills, capabilities and talents required to solve the challenges at hand.

3. Brokering (Exchange)
When additional capabilities are required to meet specific needs, AHA draws upon our extensive and expanding networks of local, regional and national resources. Our role is to connect questions with answers, problems with solutions and people with the power to change lives.

4. Problem Solving (Action)
While inspired by dialogue, AHA is committed to the proactive resolution of lifestyle problems associated with aging. Our services range from person-centered assessment, referral and placement services to the sharing of information, ideas and talent on a national level.
